How it works

Behavioural change is easy, fun and effective with Do Something Different.

Do Something Different programmes are different and exciting. No more ‘going on a course’. Just a series of simple steps that will gradually transform your life, health and well-being. And bring about lasting behavioural change.

All our programmes are designed to be:

  • Fun
  • Personally developing for each Do-er
  • Tailored to meet personal, community or corporate needs
  • Do-able in little or no time
  • Great value for money

Our unique 3 step behavioural change process:

Step 1:Online questionnaire

When you take part in a Do Something Different programme you complete an online questionnaire. Developed by Professor Ben C Fletcher and Professor Karen Pine, this questionnaire allows us to tailor every programme to your precise needs.

The online questionnaire measures:

  • The range of behaviours that you have now
  • How flexible you are in applying these different behaviours
  • How tied to habits you are

As soon as you have completed the online questionnaire, you will get a personal profile so you can see where you are at the start.

Step 2: Do-ing

Now you’re ready for your Do’s. Each one normally arrives by text on your mobile, or by email. They are simple to do and won’t take too long. They’re fun too. You’ll probably get about three a week.

Each Do will help you to take small steps in a new direction. To experience something new. See things from a different point of view. Break an old habit.

Next, over six or eight weeks, your Do’s will help you to develop new behaviours. OK. It might feel a tiny bit uncomfortable at first. That’s fine. That’s because it’s different. And you might not always remember to do your Do. Don’t worry we’ll keep you on your toes with some friendly reminders.

Step 3: FOLLOWING ON

When you’ve finished, we’ll measure the changes you have undergone. And give you the chance to tell us about your experiences. And share them with others (most of our Do-ers want to tell the world about how their life has changed).

And it doesn’t stop there. We find many Do-ers make Do’s a way of life. You may find that you love the new behaviours you have discovered. We know you’ll continue to enjoy an exciting new world full of different things.
